Tulip Field: 8,000 Tulips in Bloom in the Hills of Modigliana

Every spring, in the hills of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, something happens that is hard to put into words. Eight thousand tulips burst into bloom all at once in the garden of Agriturismo Re Piano, just a few kilometres from Modigliana, turning the landscape into a breathtaking explosion of colour.

This is when Tulipani all’Aria comes to life: an event that has been held for many years now and never fails to surprise.

What Is Tulipani all’Aria?

Tulipani all’Aria is not a village festival or a trade fair. It is something simpler – and, for that very reason, more special. Painters arrive with their easels and paint from life, surrounded by tulips. The colours on the canvas mirror those of the field. Some watch, some stroll, some sit on the grass: everyone finds their own way to enjoy the moment.

Then, together, we light the barbecue. We eat outdoors, laugh and get to know one another. They are simple things, but it is precisely in simplicity that we rediscover a genuine connection with nature and with each other.

As Antonella, the owner of Re Piano, puts it: there is no room for anger when you are part of something as great as nature.

When Do the Tulips Bloom in Modigliana?

The tulips usually bloom between late March and mid-April, depending on the temperatures, and are at their best for about two to three weeks. We recommend that you contact us to find out exactly how the flowering is coming along and to book your visit at the best time.

In spring it is not only the tulips that bloom at Re Piano: the almond trees are already in blossom, violets and primroses dot the meadows, and the scent of acacia heralds the arrival of the warmer months. It is elderflower time too, and we use the flowers to make our own artisan cordial.

More Than Tulips: Things to Do in Spring at Re Piano
